<description>If science fiction cinema is a projection of the present onto the future, and Star Trek in particular is an example of this, then I must admit I am more than a little chagrined regarding what this says about our time. For all the absurdity of the original Star Trek series, it is still mostly watchable and enjoyable. On the other hand, the most recent Star Trek film is one of the worst films in recent memory, among those I am have seen. It tries to do far too much, and fails on almost every account. The narrative is lost in distractions. Kirk has been transformed from impetuous to manic. Is this our world, today? I hope not, but you may be right.

Respectfully,
